What Is This?

The 6:8 Project is a ministry of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Bedford, Texas.  Emmanuel Presbyterian Church (www.emmanuelpc.org) is a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (www.pcusa.org).   Thus, the project is “Reformed” with regard to theology and mission activity.  However, many 6:8 Project participants are affiliated with other Presbyterian churches, other denominations, or with no specific church at all.  In general, we are just a collection of Christians who want to live more obedient lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.  We seek to do this through our small group Bible studies, through advocacy, and through a physical mission presence.  By design, The 6:8 Project is not meant to be a replacement or substitute for church.  It is “in addition to” for those who want to seek an even closer walk.

Why Are We Doing This?

Because Jesus said so. Period. Love God. Love neighbor. Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly. We are not doing enough. This is urgent. Lives hang in the balance. We need to do more than we are doing. We need a more radical discipleship. Jesus showed us how. Love the outcast. Heal the wounded. Free the captive. Sight to the blind… We all know the “to do” list. Small group study helps us to discern how we can be obedient. It is tempting to say, “I am doing enough.” Paul reminds us that God knows our good works.  Yet, Paul urges us to do more and more!

Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are doing), you should do so more and more.
